Vehicle fleeing police causes serious collision injuring 5

Crashes happen every day, but when they involve you and your family, it can feel like your entire world is under attack. Everything you know changes in an instant, putting you under stress and potentially leaving you in pain.

While crashes do happen regularly, there are some that should have been avoided. Take, for example, crashes that result from drivers fleeing from the police.

In an incident in Rogers Park, a driver was fleeing a traffic stop when they ran a red light and collided with another vehicle. Officers had attempted to stop the vehicle after it ran a stop sign on North Ridge Boulevard, but officers didn't pursue the vehicle when the driver fled the stop.

Despite that, the driver fled through a red light on Touhy Avenue, which resulted in a crash with the passenger side of a vehicle. The vehicle was struck so hard that it flipped over.

The authorities reported that two adults had to be taken to a hospital, as did a child who was a passenger in the vehicle. The driver, a 35-year-old man, was taken to the Swedish Covenant Hospital for care but was released shortly thereafter. The passengers, a 35-year-old woman and 2-year-old child, were taken to Lurie Children's Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

The man who fled from the police, a 33-year-old, and his passenger, 31, were both treated and released. Initially, they had been listed in critical condition as well. Now, detectives are investigating to see if they can find the root cause of this unnecessary accident.
